Vice President Harris has spent her entire career working to build a future free from gun violence.

This November, voters will make a choice between a future of freedom and safety under Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, or a future of chaos, fear, and hate under Donald Trump and JD Vance. The choice could not be more clear.

The ‘guns everywhere’ agenda promoted by Trump and Vance flies in the face of both common sense and public opinion. By contrast, Harris has been a longtime champion of common-sense laws to create safer communities.

Americans deserve to have the freedom to live safe from gun violence. And from her time as district attorney to attorney general, to the U.S. Senate and then the White House, Harris’ record proves she is committed to this work.

Throughout her career, Harris has been a trailblazer in the fight to keep women and families safe from domestic violence and gun violence. These issues are deeply interconnected.

Freedom means protecting women and families from gun violence. And Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this election who is committed to doing so.

Here are five ways Kamala Harris has fought to protect women and families from gun violence:

  1. As San Francisco’s top prosecutor, Harris prioritized domestic violence cases and prosecuted cases of child sexual assault.
  1. In 2007, Harris created a Hate Crimes Unit that focused on crimes against LGBTQ+ children and teens in schools in San Francisco.
  1. As California Attorney General, Harris led the fight to pass a red flag law, becoming only the third state at the time to do so. She also called on Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, which was ultimately enacted in 2022.
  2. As a U.S. Senator for California, Harris co-sponsored legislation to close the “boyfriend loophole” and prohibit stalkers from purchasing or possessing firearms. This loophole was ultimately addressed in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA). Senator Harris also co-sponsored legislation to help protect survivors of domestic violence.
  3. As Vice President, Kamala Harris oversees the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The Biden Administration established the Office in September 2023. Her priorities in this role include strengthening background checks and increasing support for survivors and victims of gun violence. In 2024, she demonstrated her strong commitment to red flag laws when she announced the launch of the first-ever National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center

Earlier this week, Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her pick for Vice President. This selection is further proof of her work to protect women and families from gun violence. Governor Walz shares Harris’ commitment to making communities free from gun violence. In 2023, Walz signed historic gun violence prevention measures into law in Minnesota, including expanded background checks and a red flag law.

This election is a life-or-death moment for the clear majority of Americans who are demanding to live free from gun violence. We must go all-out to help Vice President Harris and Governor Walz defeat Trump and Vance, whose ‘guns everywhere’ agenda is a dream come true for extremists and criminals.
