This November, the midterm elections could be among the most consequential in history. Since taking office, Donald Trump and MAGA extremists have thrown our safety out the window, focusing instead on creating chaos and disorder, rolling back critical gun safety laws, and violently attacking our communities. But now, we have an opportunity to push back against a president out of control and a Congress run by MAGA extremists.
Let’s be clear: What happens this November will decide whether families are kept safe, whether children are protected in classrooms and communities, and whether the gun safety progress we fought so hard for gets dismantled. With all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives up for grabs, the direction of our country could be decided by just a few races.
The stakes are high, but so is our motivation and momentum. And the leaders who can turn the tide and check this administration on its chaos and cruelty are coming from inside our movement. More than 40 Moms Demand Action volunteers are running for Congress, including 8 in the most competitive races in the country. The heroes America needs right now are wearing our red shirts, and we’re all in to do everything in our power to get these gun safety champions into office.
8 Women Who Could Flip the House of Representatives in the Midterm Elections
- JoAnna Mendoza (AZ-06)
Moms Demand Action volunteer JoAnna Mendoza is running to flip one of the most competitive districts in the country. As a Marine and Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, JoAnna will protect responsible gun ownership and make our communities safer at the same time. Mendoza’s victory will help put a check on an administration that has spent the last year gutting ATF, rearming domestic abusers and violent criminals, and shredding federal gun safety laws.
- Pia Dandiya (FL-22)
Pia Dandiya started her career as a high school principal, where she led active shooter drills for her students and saw firsthand the immense burden of the gun violence crisis on students, families, and educators alike. That’s why she’s committed to passing common-sense gun safety laws to keep Florida families truly safe. An educator, policy leader, and technology leader born and raised in Palm Beach County, Dandiya is committed to rebuilding the American Dream for her fellow Floridians: a future where Florida families can live freely, without the fear of gun violence.
- Christina Bohannan (IA-01)
In 2026, Iowa voters have the opportunity to elect gun sense champion and Moms Demand Action volunteer Christina Bohannan to one of the nation’s most competitive Congressional seats. After coming within fewer than 800 votes of victory in 2024, Bohannan is running again to represent Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. Bohannan, a former Iowa state representative, has fought back against efforts to gut Iowa’s background check and concealed carry permit laws. She is a staunch advocate for public safety, supports responsible gun ownership, and is ready to work tirelessly in Washington, D.C., to protect Iowa families.
- Lindsay James (IA-02)
As an experienced legislator, educator, chaplain, and mother living in Dubuque, James has made common-sense gun violence prevention a cornerstone of her campaign. Since her election to the Iowa House in 2018, James has served four state House terms, risen to minority whip, and helped establish Iowa’s first bipartisan, bicameral caucus. Her experiences serving families in times of crisis, as well as raising kids of her own, have shaped her commitment to practical solutions that keep Iowa children and communities safe. James is a gun sense champion who knows that no parent should have to fear for their child’s safety when dropping them off at school.
- Sarah Trone Garriott (IA-03)
At a time when Iowa has rolled back firearm safety laws, voters can send one of the state’s leading gun violence prevention advocates to Congress by electing Sarah Trone Garriott. Trone Garriott has spent her career serving people in times of crisis. She’s been an AmeriCorps volunteer supporting survivors of domestic violence, a hospital chaplain, a minister, and now an Iowa state senator. First elected in 2020 after flipping a Republican-held state Senate seat, she narrowly won re-election in 2024, preserving a key Democratic seat in the legislature. A former Moms Demand Action volunteer and Demand a Seat participant, Trone Garriott beat the gun lobby-backed Senate president to win her seat and has become one of Iowa’s foremost voices for gun violence prevention.
- Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08)
A former Michigan chapter leader of Moms Demand Action, U.S. Representative Kristen McDonald Rivet knows the importance of keeping Michigan families safe and improving child care and education. Rivet helped flip the Michigan state Senate in 2022 in a very tight race and helped pass a historic slate of gun safety bills after the shooting at Michigan State University. Keeping dedicated public servants like Kristen McDonald Rivet in the U.S. House will be critical to making progress on common-sense gun safety laws.
- Christina Hines (MI-10)
Christina is a mom on a mission to flip this open seat in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District — one of the most competitive races in the country. A career prosecutor and mother of three, Christina Hines has spent her career fighting for public safety, protecting women and children, and prosecuting dangerous criminals. As a member of Congress, she’ll continue to prioritize the public safety of Michiganders, take on the gun lobby, fight for secure storage of firearms, and disarm domestic abusers.
- Paige Cognetti (PA-08)
Paige Cognetti, the first woman to be elected mayor of Scranton, offers Pennsylvania voters a pragmatic, solutions-oriented candidate focused on reform and transparency. A member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, she has tackled corruption head-on and launched Scranton’s first community violence intervention program. And in Congress, Cognetti will work to stop corrupt stock trading by members of Congress, fight for Northeastern Pennsylvania families, and address the gun lobby’s crooked practices.
The results in the midterms will set the stage for what is possible in 2028 and beyond
We know what policies reduce gun violence, and we know how to win elections.
It’s simple: when we had a Gun Sense administration in the White House, we saved lives. Our movement worked with the administration and Gun Sense majorities in the House and Senate to pass the most significant federal gun safety legislation in a generation: the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. And President Biden took life-saving executive action on ghost guns, unlicensed gun dealers, and firearm suicide.
In November 2025, we elected Gun Sense governors Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger in Virginia, who went from a Moms Demand Action leader to the governor’s mansion. Both ran strong campaigns that put gun violence prevention and public safety front and center, and both delivered on their campaign promises.
We know what’s possible. We’ve seen gun safety win. Now, it’s time to do it again. The road to returning a Gun Sense majority to Congress runs straight through the districts where Moms Demand Action volunteers are running for Congress, and when they win, we’re ready to:
- Hold President Trump, Vice President Vance, and MAGA extremists accountable for weakening popular, bipartisan federal gun safety laws.
- Ensure we defeat the gun lobby’s top legislative priorities and protect state laws about who can carry hidden, loaded guns in public.
- Show Americans that change is possible — and mobilize people to vote for a Gun Sense president in 2028.
